Happy Computer Science Education Week!
A night to remember
THANK YOU to our wonderful PTA and Palomino families who contributed to our Trunk or Treat event on October 28. Team Palomino truly united for a fun-filled night of trunks, treats, yummy food, festive music, and bouncing galore. You are all truly appreciated, and we are blessed to have such fantastic families! I’d also like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to our families who attended the grand event! There were so many happy, smiling faces!
Tree Care Day!
Chatsworth Park's "Tree Care Day" on October 22 was a grand success! Volunteers from the TreePeople and our own Palomino families assisted with pulling weeds, turning soil, laying mulch, and watering our new trees (more than 20)! We are truly appreciative our volunteers' time and support! Our campus is all the more beautiful thanks to them!
Kids Are First!
PTA's fall fundraiser "Kids Are First" is well under way! This is the PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year! Our awesome Chatsworth Park PTA has partnered with West Coast Fund Raising ("Kids Are First") to offer catalog and online sales of various items. With delicious popcorn, beautiful wrapping paper, kitchen items, stationary, and much more, the "Kids Are First" fundraiser has it all! Remember, our PTA supports our school with the YMCA psychomotor program, field trips, special events, and more. When you support our PTA, you're supporting the students of Chatsworth Park, and it is appreciated!!
Inspiring Future Authors!
On Tuesday, September 27, our Palominos were treated to a motivational assembly from two children's book authors: Adam T. Newman and Joshua Hauke. Not only did the authors share their witty stories with them, our students were inspired to give 100% to their own writing and let their creativity show!

Palominos Love Pali!
5th Grade's Headed to Pali!
On May 9-11, our fifth grade headed for a fun-filled field trip to the Pali Institute. Located in the San Bernardino Mountains, our students experienced a once-in-a-lifetime adventure through Pali's outdoor education and science program. They enjoyed team-building exercises and honed their leadership potential while enjoying the outside world around them. The fifth-grade trip to Pali was an experience they will always remember!

TreePeople and our Palomino Community Unite!
It's Tree Planting Day!
TreePeople volunteers and our Palomino community united on Saturday, April 9, 2016, to plant 14 trees at Chatsworth Park. Even though it rained off and on, our volunteers gave their best and successfully planted Mulberry, Palo Verde, and Ash trees. For years to come, our Palominos will enjoy these trees and the shade they provide. A million thanks to the TreePeople volunteers and our Palomino families!

We love Read Across America!
Chatsworth Park students are truly excited to celebrate Read Across America through a variety of activities this week (February 29-March 4). With crazy socks, pajamas, crazy hats, backward shirts, and crazy hair, this week is sure to be full of fun! Plus, March 2 is Dr. Seuss's birthday and we're hosting our first Family Reading Night on his special day from 6:30-7:30 p.m.! What a way to say happy birthday to one of our favorite authors!
Palominos Jump Rope for the Heart!
School Tours Begin March 1
Know any families who are interested in possibly attending Chatsworth Park next year? If so, school tours start Tuesday, March 1! Every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., families can receive a guided tour through our special school. Check out our incredible science lab, computer lab, Wonder of Reading library, and arts program! Let's Jump Rope for the Heart on February 19!
Chatsworth Park's Jump Rope for the Heart event is well under way. Through this event, students get the chance to raise money for the American Heart Association while earning “Lifesaver Pups” at the same time! To get started, simply register at www.heart.org/jump. Our culminating event will take place during our YMCA COPE time on Friday, February 19...and it's going to be great fun! We thank you in advance for supporting this good cause!
HOLIDAY SHOW SUCCESS!
Closed Campus Policy
Beginning Tuesday, January 19, 2016, Chatsworth Park Elementary School, pursuant to district policy, will initiate a Closed Campus Policy. This means that during school hours, our campus is "closed," with all doors and gates locked. This is to ensure the safety of our students. All students should arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Please know that the gates will not open until 7:30 a.m. School staff will be located at two gates—Devonshire Street and Hiawatha Street—to welcome your children and to supervise them on the playground between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Since we will be a "closed campus," parents will no longer be able to accompany their children onto the yard or wait with them until the bell rings. Click here for more information.

Health and Wellness at CPES!
Our school was honored on December 9, 2015, at the Local District Northwest Principals' Meeting with the Health and Wellness Award. We've been working hard to inspire our Palominos to become more physically fit. Not only do we have our YMCA Cope program every Friday (thank you, wonderful PTA!), we started "Music Mondays" where our students dance during recess time...and sometimes, Mrs. Ratner has been known to dance a bit too! It's a great way to have fun and get moving. Plus, music is good for the soul!
Our 21st century learners love coding!
The Hour of Code is here!
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.
Our Hour of Code is a statement that Chatsworth Park Elementary is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge. This next week, we'll introduce the Hour of Code at our monthly morning assembly on December 7. From December 7-11, every Palomino will visit our computer lab and experience coding in a fun, interactive way. Plus, they'll receive an awesome sticker and certificate upon completion! We're fostering a love of computer science here at Chatsworth Park!
For more information, see http://hourofcode.com/us (http://hourofcode.com/us), and help spread the word. You may also want to register your child for a free coding event at your local Apple store on December 10 (http://www.apple.com/retail/code/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-features). Let's make coding come alive for our 21st Century learners!
