Mission/Vision/Program

Our Mission

The mission of Chatsworth Park Urban Planning Magnet is to engage students in an inspiring and challenging curriculum that will provide them with the 21st Century skills necessary to be not only college and career ready, but also responsible community advocates.

Our School Vision

Our vision is to “pioneer culturally relevant standards-based curriculum that will engross students in a forward-thinking, conscientious, interdisciplinary, and collaborative learning environment. We are dedicated to educating the future of our community and inspiring all students to become active participants in planning, building, and sustaining the community they wish to see twenty years from now.  As a community that strives to preserve our culture, while celebrating diversity, we encourage and promote active involvement from all members of the community, students, staff, and parents. Together, we shall form the foundation that drives decision making and develops the future of our community.”

Our Model Program

Our students will be engaged in a unique curriculum that is heavily focused on the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), interweaving English language arts, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), through project-based learning (PBL) to prepare them for a job market that is expected to grow by 7% over the next decade in the areas of engineering and architecture. Students will not only meet and/or exceed proficiency in California State Content Standards (CSCS) and NGSS, they will acquire the critical thinking, collaborative, innovative, tech-savvy, strategic problem-solving skills necessary to prepare them to succeed in highly competitive and challenging science based degree programs, such as computer science, engineering, and statistics. The hands-on activities included in our study of urban planning through PBL will help us take advantage of Southern California’s unique location and role as a global city to help students broaden their perspectives and enrich learning by addressing the issues of urban planning, contributing real-world solutions, and constructing the culture they wish to inherit.
